THE KUMMERL TWINS

Kayla and Krista Kummerl are a commercial directing duo based in Austin, Texas.

Originally from Carrollton, Texas, their background in the theatre arts paved the way for them to find their passion within the film industry. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin’s film program, they continue to build their careers within Austin’s vibrant film industry.

As young Korean-Hispanic women, they strive to catch the eyes of a Gen-Z generation through rich colors, strong production design, and youthful stories. For them, directing heavily leans on strong visual design and camera movement to bring a story to life. It is an opportunity to make even the most mundane life experiences something magical and worth watching.

Whether it is directing or production designing a spot, they strive to reveal authenticity and rawness within their work as they showcase the truths of the human experience.

Q: How do I tell the difference?

A: Kayla has short hair. Krista has a nose ring and more tattoos. "Go for twins" always works too.

Q: How do I say your last name?

A: COME-ER-ROLL

Q: Do you have representation?

A: No! We are currently freelance directors and love any opportunity to work on new projects with new people!

Q: Do you ever work separately?

A: Short answer, no. Long answer, unlike many siblings we find that we work best together as our identical upbringing allows us to form a cohesive vision when it comes to projects. We believe that our process allows us to be more thorough in our work as we collaborate with one another. We often tell others to envision us as the Safdie, Coen, or Duffer brothers. But the girl version.

Q: Are you identical?

A: No, we are fraternal.

Q: What is your background?

A: We are 1/2 Hispanic, 1/4 Korean, and 1/4 German.
